After a devastating loss, Curves gave Heather Davies a new reason for living.
A TRAGIC LOSS
Heather Davies' life changed forever in August 2004 when she lost her only child, 32 year old Carlton, to cancer. Devastated by the loss of her precious son, over the next year she sank lower and lower, eventually "feeling there was no point to life". At 17 stone, her weight impacted on both her state of mind and her health.
THE TURNING POINT
Heather describes periods of: "looking in the mirror and hating what I looked like, and how I was feeling", but with time came the realization that this would not have been what her son wanted for her;
"I realized how very upset Carlton would be to see me so unhappy and depressed".
DIETING NOT ENOUGH
Heather joined a slimming club but as her weight loss began she quickly realized that this approach was not enough; "I would have to tone up or end up with lots of loose skin". After some research she decided that Curves would help her serve this aim most fully, joined with her sister-in-law, and never looked back – "from the start [we] loved every minute we spent there!" Heather also met lots of new friends at Curves and says that they "always manage to have a laugh when we exercise".
HEALTH & HAPPINESS AT CURVES
Since the day Heather made the decision to join Curves, she has lost an amazing 7 stone. She credits Curves as helping her to "enjoy life again and making me feel I can achieve anything I want to". Prior to joining Curves she had been on blood pressure pills for over twenty years – today, she no longer takes any medication! Planned surgery on a pre-existing knee injury was also cancelled after strengthening exercises performed as a part of Heather's Curves program made the operation no longer necessary.
